Twenty years ago to the day Oasis made history by playing sell-out gigs at Knebworth Park in front of a quarter of a million people.
The Brit Pop band were supported by The Charlatans, Kula Shaker, Manic Street Preachers, The Bootleg Beatles, The Chemical Brothers, Ocean Colour Scene and The Prodigy over the two nights, playing in front of 125,000 people per night.
Over 2.6 million people applied for tickets for the shows, making it the largest ever demand for concert tickets in British history.
A video has been released to mark the anniversary of the era-defining gigs, with ‘My Big Mouth’ (which debuted at Knebworth) played behind previously unseen footage of the crowds at Knebworth from the band’s helicopter.
Oasis kicked off the night with a musical intro of the Swamp Song before kicking off with Columbia and Acquiesce. What is fascinating about the show is that they had only released two albums by this date, with My Big Mouth a sign of things to come on their third studio album Be Here Now.
Wonderwall, The Masterplan and Morning Glory all featured, as well as the legendary Live Forever and Champagne Supernova which was played with John Squire. A cover of The Beatle’s I Am the Walrus capped the night off.
