Arrest over stabbing at London grime music awards

Detectives probing the stabbing of a rapper at a grime music awards show have now questioned a suspect.

Leon Riviere, 37, who performs under the name Young Spray, was knifed repeatedly in a backstage dressing room at the Apollo in Hammersmith, west London, during the GRM Daily Rated Awards earlier this month.

Police say a suspect, also 37, was held on suspicion of GBH at a south London police station.

The victim, who has now been discharged from hospital, posted a picture of himself in a hospital bed after the attack.

Top rappers, including Stormzy, made an appearance at the GRM Daily Rated Award, along with Krept and Konan, Chip and Big Narstie.

A Scotland Yard spokeswoman said: “Detectives investigating a non-fatal stabbing at the Eventim Apollo on Tuesday September 4th have made an arrest.

“A 37-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of GBH.

“He has been taken to a south London police station where he is assisting detectives with their inquiries.

“Police were called to the Eventim Apollo, Queen Caroline Street, Hammersmith, at 9.10pm on Tuesday September 4th to reports of a man stabbed.

“Officers and London Ambulance Service attended.

“A 37-year-old male was discovered suffering from stab wounds.

“He was taken to a west London hospital and has since been discharged.”
