Police still refusing to declare on cricketer Ben Stokes’ fate

Police are still refusing to say when England ace Ben Stokes might be free to join the team for the Ashes.

The 26 year-old all-rounder was arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm after a brawl in Bristol in September.

He was released pending further investigation and suspended by the England team while the case remains unresolved.

But two months on – and with the Ashes starting today (weds) in Brisbane – Avon and Somerset say they still have no update on Stokes‘ fate.

A spokesman said on Tuesday evening: “There’s no change. Once there has been a development we will say so.”

One report said that Stokes was re-interviewed by police last weekend.

He was arrested on September 26 outside a club in the city as he was out celebrating a one-day win over the West Indies.

Fellow star Alex Hales who was with him at the time of the incident but not arrested, has also been questioned by police and remains suspended from England duty.

Stokes also faces an independent England and Wales Cricket Board disciplinary committee for becoming involved in the street fight in which he broke his hand.
