A QUARTER of people who voted Brexit believe they were duped by Leave campaign

Shocking new research has revealed that a quarter of people who voted for Brexit – the equivalent of over 4.3 million people – believe they were duped by the Leave campaign.

With several promises outlined as part of the campaign since rubbished following the vote many Leave voters unsurprisingly feel they were lied to by prominent campaigners such as Nigel Farage, Boris Johnson and Michael Gove.

But even though the politicians peddled blatant fabrications in order to settle Britain’s divorce with Europe, many of the aforementioned people now occupy senior roles in government rather than getting their comeuppance.

Some 26 per cent of people who voted to leave the European Union said the campaign for Brexit was either “mostly” or “completely” misleading, according to Opinium.

That compares with around 16 per cent of Remain voters who said that campaign was “mostly” or “completely” misleading.

One in five Leave voters said they no longer believed that the contribution given by the UK to the EU – estimated to be £350m – would be given to the NHS after Brexit, having believed it when they voted. Some 10 per cent of Remain voters said the same.

Meanwhile, seven per cent of Leave voters said they would swap their vote if there were another referendum, while one per cent said they would not vote.

      1. @John 3m jobs would be lost if we voted to Leave, economic apocalypse, banks abandoning the UK, mass exodus of businesses, terrorists on the rampage, stock markets collapsing, tax rises, slashing NHS funding, house prices tanking, third world war, pariah state, nobody will want trade deals, recession, every household £800 a year worse off …

In case anyone hasn’t noticed; Britain hasn’t actually left yet. The consequences of the vote will no doubt become apparent soon afterwards. As usual it won’t be the almost invariably wealthy people in the headlines who suffer.

Fruit is rotting in fields, 41 banks are leaving the city – did you see the tweet by Goldman boss Lloyd Blanfein from Franfurt? Interest rates have gone up the first time in a decade. Inflation 3%, the pound in the toilet. How many clues do you need to see the forthcoming apocalypse. Keep an eye on interest rates because that may well trigger a crash in the housing market and the stock excahnge.

The emergency budget the day we left, the fact that we pay more than £350 million in loans and loss of industry to Eastern Europe which was EU funded paid for the the British taxpayer, the economy would collapse again the day after the Brexit vote, the fact the top remoaners including Glegg all said we would have to leave the customs area but now say no one knew they would have to leave the customs area, the claim that we need migration for agriculture in particular this was done my uni-students but no longer. The Eastern migrant now do most of it and who does their jobs in Eastern Europe? that would be North Korean state sponsored work gang! Thats enough and there is plenty more!

Yep – If you’re an actual journalist, you’ll remember the £9,000,000 booklet, paid for out of our money, that made these claims, you idiot!

  1. This story should have quoted its source. At a glance, I can’t see it on Opinium’s own site; it may be that they have simply not posted it yet. That doesn’t mean the story is wrong – these figures are believable – but we’ve had some very dishonest politics and media over the last few years and anything that quotes an opinion poll should at least give the date, sample number and a link to the polling company’s own report.

  2. If they were duped that would mean they were tricked into voting Leave but if 26% of Leave voters really believe they were lied to and only 7% would vote Remain if they got to vote again then clearly a quarter of Leave voters don’t believe they were “duped”. Nigel Farage and UKIP of course distanced themselves from the £350m claim made by Vote Leave and Farage even publicly called on them to stop using the figure because it was misleading. How many Remainiacs would change their vote according to this poll? You don’t appear to have mentioned that statistic.

I think a person can still recognise they were lied to and still want to leave.

All that has happened is its forced leavers to admit that their reasoning was always emotional and ideological rather than hard headed and pragmatic.

The small number of actual hard headed and pragmatic leavers who’ve realised they were lied to have now changed allegiance. Hence brexit now doing a headless chicken dance before inevitable death.

What research? Sample size? Link to research?
Be more open, more honest than the other side – misleading reporting helps nobody.

This sort of rubbish should be made illegal. I live in a household where 3 voted leave, none were asked if they thought they had been duped or would change their minds. I have spoken to 20/25 friends and relatives and they have not changed their minds. The establishment has been wounded and they don’t like it and that’s why they keep inventing these stories and encouraging others to do the same. Politicians will always give voters the impression they are acting in the public interest and lie like rats to get into or stay in office. they will promise to reduce immigration to a few thousand whilst knowing they can not etc. Politicians telling the truth? Watch that cow jump over the moon.

    Duped.

We in Scotland know all about MSM helping to dupe the voting public.

Why else did 62% of our country vote to remain. Being part of this union means our views and wants are not listened to.

What ever England wants England gets because they have the biggest population. Consider how the people of NI, Wales and Scotland feel in the ‘Union ‘ of unequals

Say to people what they want to hear – and be the winner! That’s what they did. And they won.

It IS a like about those millions going to NHS instead of EU.
    BIG LIE.
There will be no those millions. UK lost its AAA credit rating and this is only the beginning.
Banks will leave. Less tax. Less jobs. Less investments. No one willing to work for cheaper – like migrants did.
    Prices will rise.
They money will become expensive for the UK due to lost economic stability. Interest rates will jump.
Hole in the budget. Debt rising.

It IS a lie about those millions going to NHS instead of EU. BIG LIE. A lot was coming back. And pound WAS STRONG AND STABLE. This is gone thanks to Brexit.
There will be no those millions. UK already lost its AAA credit rating and this is only the beginning.

Banks will leave hence less tax paid to HMRC. Less jobs. Less investments. No one willing to work for cheaper – like migrants did. So prices will rise.

The loans will become more expensive for the UK due to the loss of economic stability. Interest rates will jump. Hole in the budget. Debt rising. Hyper-inflation.
