Grenfell Tower charity evening lambasted for all-white comedy line-up

A comedy night arranged in aid of people affected by the Grenfell Tower fire has been lambasted for not having a single person of colour on its 12-header bill.

The Kerb Productions event running at the Eventim Apollo features a star-studded line up including Michael Mcintyre, Jo Brand, Micky Flanagan and Josh Widdicombe, but fails to feature any non-white comedians.

The lack of diversity has caused a stir on social media after writer and television host Nikesh Shukla highlighted the noticeable absentees.

Grenfell Tower housed people largely from ethnic minority backgrounds, but according to comedian Tez Ilyas he, nor many other comedians from ethnic minorities, were even asked to perform on the bill.

Although he didn’t divulge on specifics, he said other comedians such Omid Djalili, Shappi Khorsandi, Romesh Ranganathan, Shazea Mirza, Ava Vidal, Nathan Caton and Lenny Henry were overlooked in favour of other acts.

It has also been highlighted that there are also just two women on the bill and ten men.
