Ticket to ride: Paul McCartney spotted sitting alone on a train out of London

There were times when he would be mobbed by thousands of screaming fans every time he tried to step out the door.

But those days were far behind Paul McCartney when he was spotted sitting alone on a train out of London – without a bodyguard or entourage in sight.

The 75-year-old Beatle boarded the Kings Cross to Hastings, East Sussex, train on his own and took up a seat in first class.

Onlookers said he passed the time by looking at his phone – an old-school Nokia – and reading the paper on Monday in the early evening.

And unlike his heyday when he couldn’t move for fainting teenage girls and screaming fans, he was only approached by three or four admirers.

One onlooker, a 21-year-old city worker, said: “He was on his own without any bodyguards or staff.

“Only a few people stopped to say hello and that it was nice to see him.

“He didn’t want photos but he was very polite and happy to chat, taking about a new album he has coming out.

“It was unusual seeing such a massive music star just sat on his own.”

McCartney lives on a 1,500 acre estate in Peasmarsh, East Sussex.

I met Macca in a guitar shop in Central London about 15 years or so ago not far from his office in Soho Square. He was unaccompanied by minders and quite friendly and chatty. We talked about the shop which had been around since 1958. The boys used to visit it in the early 60s after they were signed to Parlophone/Emi.
We talked about his early guitars and he asked me where to find left handed guitars.
I recommended a shop in Leytonstone (sadly moved now!) which stocked many because the owner was left handed himself…

I am very sorry for you, Mr. Jack Peat. Envy is something really ugly and you don’t need that. You disrespect Sir Paul McCartney only because he is free to go where he wants now without body guard. You insulted him for what reason? Envy. “And unlike his heyday when he couldn’t move for fainting teenage girls and screaming fans, he was only approached by three or four admirers”. Where do you live? Not in planet Earth, because if so, you would know Paul is on his heydays even now. He is one of the most admirers musicians in the world and at the age of 75 he still tours with great sucess in crowded stadiums. His fans love him so much they just respect him when he is travelling. He deserves it. It is not because he doesn’t have fans. But maybe you know about it wrote it on purpose only to be mean. In any case it is really ugly. What a shame. But the picture is amazing.

Maybe it’s a look a like!? Can’t imagine Sir Paul without protection and can’t imagine people would leave him alone. People just don’t have that sort of self control. Probably a set up photo.
