Food & Drink Guide To Independence Day In London

By Jonathan Hatchman, Food Editor, @TLE_Food

With plenty of American Independence Day celebrations taking place this weekend, London may be thousands of miles away from our transatlantic neighbours, but plenty of bars and restaurants are jumping on board to celebrate the American Holiday. Some American, and some not so American, here’s our guide to the best food and drink events that the Capital has to offer for Independence Day.

Marylebone’s The Lockhart will be serving some truly authentic Southern American dished from Mississippi-born Chef Brad Mcdonald on July 4th. Set to serve a ‘Family Style’ Picnic Menu, priced at £50, including a glass of Watermelon Punch on arrival, followed by a feast of Lockhart snacks including BBQ Ribs, Fried Chicken, the restaurant’s signature Cornbread, and sides such as Sweet Corn and Jalapeno Pudding, Baked BBQ Beans, Potato Salad, and more.

American comfort food restaurant, specialising in experimental Meat on the bone dishes, Dirty Bones will be offering a special 4th of July Burger. Set to contain a 6oz Beef Burger, Monterey Jack and Craft Beer Cheese, Coca Cola Onion Rings, Onion Confit and Onion Seeds, the Burger will be priced at £9. And what’s more, Dirty Bones will also be offering complimentary Cocktails to any customer who trades in a $1 bill while dining.

STK London

Also in celebration of Independence Day, STK London is set to launch a six-course USDA Beef Tasting Menu on July 4th. Taking pride in their 28-day aged USDA Prime Beef, Executive Chef Barry Vera’s tasting menu will be the restaurant’s first and will feature four small dishes (Beef Ceviche, STK’s signature Lil BRGR, Shin of Beef Ravioli, and Asian Beef), a main course of Sirloin Steak served with Parmesan Truffle Chips and STK Sauce. And to finish off, dessert will be STK’s ‘Taste of the Fairground’, including Candy Floss, Toffee Apples, Cookie Milkshake, Peanut Butter and Raspberry Macaroons, Salted Caramel Doughnuts and sweet shop Marshmallows.

In honour of Independence Day, London’s only mountain cabin bar and dance saloon – Beaver Lodge will host a ‘Merica Independence Day Bash this weekend on July 4th. Tying in with the event, there’ll be a new Bulleit Summer Hardshakes menu, and the Lodge will also be serving USA pride with Red Solo Cup Cocktails and Ice Buckets of Beer, perfect for cooling down in the July heat. What’s more, an all-American marching band will be performing some patriotic numbers such as ‘God Bless America’ and ‘Proud to be an American’.

Quintessentially American restaurant, Joe’s Southern Kitchen & Bar will be hosting a July 4th party in both of their London venues this weekend. Each will have a live music showcase, and the latest outlet in Kentish Town will have its own outdoor bar for the occasion, while July 4th marks the second year anniversary of the Covent Garden restaurant opening. Customers are encouraged to arrive in Hillbilly fancy dress, and the best dressed with have their meal paid for.

We know that Bray isn’t in London, but just a 20-minute train ride from London’s Paddington, The Hinds Head – Heston Blumenthal’s Michelin Starred pub is a worthy exception, and the perfect excuse for a weekend getaway. To celebrate Independence Day, the pub will be offering a five-course British Colonial tasting menu from 7:30-10:30pm. Priced at £95 per person, the menu is set to contain Smoked Chicken Liver Parfait with Cranberry Jelly and Corn Bread, Maple Glazed Pork Belly, Cheesecake with Raspberry and Cookie Ice Cream, and more.
