Packing light: what to pack for your next city break away

What should you pack for your next city break away?

A city break is the perfect respite when the stress of work and adult life gets too much and you just need to get away from it all for a change of pace. Now, choosing where to go and when to book is probably the easy part but what do you need to pack for such a trip and what size case do you need and are five pairs of shoes really necessary? Here’s a quick guide on what you need to pop in your bag for your next short getaway:

The European city break

Are you planning on exploring the secret alleyways, historical hotspots and trawling between tourist traps on a European city break? Then here’s what you need:

  • A small hand luggage case – one that meets airline requirements and fits into a holdall should do the trick on your European getaway.
  • Comfortable shoes – you’re probably going to be doing a lot of walking so ensure your footwear is appropriate.
  • Seasonal clothing – this will change throughout the year but Paris in winter, for example, is practically Arctic, so you’ll want to pack a big scarf, gloves and hat in your case and wear your large coat on the plane. Check the weather before you go to determine what outerwear, if any, you need.
  • A DSLR camera – don’t rely on your smartphone to take some great snaps on your travels, invest in a DSLR and take home high quality images and memories to share with family and friends.
  • Of course, don’t forget your passport, phone and wallet!

The foodie city break

Sometimes you just need to head to a foreign country and sample the cuisine, that’s a foodie’s idea of fun anyway and if you fall into this category and are off to eat all of the waffles Amsterdam has to offer or to sample wines in Mainz (if you were wondering here some of the best cities for wine tasting), then this is what you’ll need:

  • A small hand luggage case – and perhaps an extra one for all the sauces and cheese you might bring home.
  • Roomy trousers – with all that food you might find yourself needing to relieve some of the pressure on the waistband (fashion site BV offers some super comfortable, high fashion joggers for such an occasion.) Holiday calories don’t count though, right?
  • A list of places you need to try – do your research before you go and have a list of eateries and bars nearby that you want to sample.
  • Of course, don’t forget your passport, phone and wallet!

The ‘taking advantage of everything the luxury hotel has to offer’ break

Heading to another city, simply to spend the weekend in the hotel spa and perhaps take a few casual strolls through the streets to find somewhere to eat in the evening? Then you definitely need these things:

  • Swimming costume – if you’re heading into the spa you’re going to need to don some swimwear and a one piece is probably the better option.
  • A good book – with all that free time to relax you’ll want some way of keeping yourself entertained. Here are some crackers to get stuck into in 2016.
  • Of course, don’t forget your passport, phone and wallet!

Planning what to pack for that city break has never been easier and with these essentials in your case, depending on what type of getaway you’re jetting off to, you’ll be off to a good start once that plane lands.
