Beer of the Week – Meantime Yakima Red

By Jonathan Hatchman, Food Editor, @TLE_Food

Strength: 4.1 ABV

Brewed: Greenwich, London

Introduced at the tail end of 2012 as the second addition to Meantime Brewery’s core range (following the success of their London Lager). First launched as a limited edition brew, only available on draught from a small number of bars, including the Brewery’s ‘Tasting Rooms’ within the Greenwich site, Yakima Red is brewed using British and German malts as well as a variety of five different US Hops from Washington State’s Yakima Valley.

When poured from the bottle, the Copper-Red drink is topped with a fine creamy head. On the nose there’s notes of tropical fruit, including Red Berries and subtle Grapefruit, meanwhile the taste is filled with malty Caramel flavours that provide a pleasant, lasting finish, joined by a gentle note of Mandarin peel. Overall Yakima Red is a pleasant, highly quaffable addition to Meantime’s fantastic core range.

Meantime Brewery can be found at Lawrence Trading Estate, Blackwall Lane, London, SE10 0AR and their core range can be purchased directly from the brewery at
